Do you really need to see the doctor?
Many common illnesses, like coughs, sore throats, colds and stomach upsets, will settle without the attention of the doctor.
The pharmacist also offers an excellent Minor Ailments scheme, and can arrange medication for conditions like those mentioned above. The cost will be the lowest of the cost of the medicine recommended or a prescription charge (free if you don’t pay for your prescriptions).
Appointments
We are constantly changing our appointment system in response to patient feedback. We are now encouraging patients to try to book appointments in advance where possible. We now offer many more appointments that are bookable in advance, and therefore fewer people should need to ring on the day for their appointment. At the moment, appointments can be booked up to one month in advance. We will try to give you an appointment with the doctor of your choice, but this may not always be possible. If you do not ask to see a particular doctor, we aim to see you within 2 working days. Patients should only ring on the day for an appointment if it is an illness which has started that same day and needs to be seen, otherwise please try to use our advance booking where possible.
Urgent appointments
As we have always done, we will make an appointment on the day that you ring if your problem is urgent. You should bear in mind that you may not be able to see a particular doctor, and that the doctor will probably only have time to deal with your urgent problem in the appointment.
